Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of GHRH (Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone), composed of 44 amino acids with an additional trans-3-hexenoic group that enhances its stability and half-life. Approved by the FDA in 2010 for HIV-associated lipodystrophy, it remains today one of the most studied GHRH analogues in metabolic research.

Studied mechanism of action

Tesamorelin binds to pituitary GHRH receptors, triggering a pulsatile release of growth hormone (GH) and a rise in IGF-1 levels. This action stimulates lipolysis and protein synthesis while preserving metabolic homeostasis. Unlike continuous GH administration, it respects the body's natural hormonal secretion rhythm.

Research areas

HIV-associated lipodystrophy

Clinical studies report a reduction in visceral adipose tissue (VAT) of approximately 20% in responder patients, placing Tesamorelin among the most effective approaches studied for this indication.

Cardiovascular and metabolic health

Reductions in triglycerides, total cholesterol, and non-HDL cholesterol have been observed. A 15% decrease in visceral adipose tissue was correlated with a reduction of approximately 50 mg/dL in triglyceride levels.

Peripheral nerve regeneration

Preclinical studies suggest that GH and IGF-1 signaling pathways promote nerve repair and axonal growth, positioning Tesamorelin as a research candidate for peripheral nerve regeneration.

Cognitive function (mild cognitive impairment)

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study conducted at the University of Washington School of Medicine reported improvements in verbal memory and executive functions, associated with an increase in GABA and a decrease in brain myo-inositol in treated participants.

Storage of lyophilized peptides

Upon receipt, store the lyophilized peptide at 4 °C or below, protected from light and moisture. In lyophilized form, the product remains stable at room temperature for several weeks. For long-term storage, storage at -20 °C is strongly recommended. Moisture is the main degradation factor: before opening the vial, allow it to come to room temperature to avoid any condensation inside the container.

Storage of reconstituted peptides

The shelf life of peptides in solution is limited. Freezing aliquots allows their lifespan to be extended. It is generally accepted that peptides in solution are stable for 3 weeks or more at +4 °C, and 3 to 4 months at -20 °C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, as they can degrade the peptides.

Special case — TESAMORELIN Tesamorelin does not follow standard recommendations. It must be stored at room temperature, protected from light and heat. Once reconstituted, it must imperatively be used within 7 days After this period, the product's efficacy decreases.
